Small group tour during one week visiting Ghana.
Day 1. Saturday. USA / Accra.
Today your will take your flight to Accra Ghana. After clearing immigration, you will be met and transferred to the hotel.
Overnight: The Labadi Beach Hotel.
Day 2. Sunday. Accra.
Today we set out on a full day tour of the capital city visiting such places as the National Museum which is home to an assortment of Royal items.
After lunch we visit the Du Bois center, the renowned author who was raised in the USA. His place is now an African art and culture center.
Other various capital sights also included during the day.

Day 3. Monday. Accra / Cape Coast (Private Drive).
This morning we set out along the coast to the Cape Coast area. Here we
Visit the cape coast castle built by the Swedes in 1652 and used to house the 1500 slaves when it was full. No escape was possible here. Continue along the coast to the Elmira Area and fishing villages and see the locals hauling in the catch.
After lunch we visit St. George’s Castle and Ft. St. Jago built in 1482 by the Portuguese after discovering the area full of gold. The castle and fort was expanded when the slaves replaced gold as the commodity. By the 18th century the dutch had used it to ship over 65,000 slaves to Europe and the USA.

Day 4. Tuesday. Cape Coast / Kumasi (Private Driver)
This morning we set out inland for a drive of approximately 200 Km, which is about a 6 hour drive. This is the capital of the ancient kingdom of the Ashanti people. It is also home to the King and his palace is open to the people.
Along the way we will break for lunch at Lake Bosumtwi, the country’s largest lake. It is sacred to the locals who believe their souls go there after death to bid farewell to their god. Twenty four villages surround the lake.
The locals boat, canoe, swim and fish on this lake (not allowed to use rods, so they use Flat wood). After visiting the area we arrive at Kumasi late afternoon.

Day 5. Wednesday. Kumasai.
We visit the Manhiya Palace Museum where the Ashanti Kings never lived in luxury. So it is surprising to most. Today’s king lives in a palace directly behind the old one. We also visit the marketplace before lunch.
Afternoon we explore a cocoa plantation and Ghana is the 2nd largest cocoa producer after Cote D’ivoire. We visit the main sights of Kumasi during the afternoon.

Day 6. Thursday. Kumasi / Accra (Private Drive).
This morning we set our on our full day drive back to the capital.
Along the route, there is a butterfly Sanctuary and Bobiri Forest Reserve that we visit. It is home to over 400 species of butterfly’s. We take a refreshing walking tour through the forest with our guide.
After lunch we return to the city of Accra reaching late this afternoon at the end of the day.

Day 7. Friday. Accra / USA
This morning we visit the arts and crafts area’s of the capital city and the various markets to find some curio’s. The afternoon is at leisure. This evening we transfer to the airport for our flight back to USA.
