  • Tour to Plettenberg Bay. Guests embark a boat at Lookout Beach for a marine excursion (weather permitting) with the emphasis on marine-mammal conservation.
  • Guided tour of the Qolweni Township, school and crèche. This community development program focuses on education.

Day 1 (Monday):

International flights – USA to Johannesburg, South Africa

Day 2 (Tuesday):

Arrive Johannesburg

Private arrival transfer to your hotel

Day 3 (Wednesday):

Full day private tour of Johannesburg and Soweto.

Meet your guide in the lobby and proceed on a full day tour of Soweto.

Highlights of your full day tour: Drive by Soccer City (or FNB Stadium), enter Soweto via the up-market area called Diepkloof Extension, visit Ekhukhanyeni Crèche: a shipping container transformed into a functional “edutainer”, Continue to the Baragwanath area and stop at the huge taxi rank for a quick look. Soak up the sights, sounds and “smells” of Africa at close quarters – informal open-air butcher shop, herbalists, barbers and market etc. Pass Baragwanath Hospital, the largest hospital in the southern hemisphere, Drive through the Kliptown Squatter camp on the ‘Old Potchefstroom’ road, where the twin towers will be found, the tour takes you past the beautiful mall, which was recently opened by Soweto’s first millionaire “Richard Maponya”, drive by the Kliptown Squatter Camp, Regina Mundi Church, This is one of the biggest Catholic churches in South Africa. Afterwards the trip continues to the Hector Pieterson Memorial.

Special historical visits to: The Mandela House and Visitors Center.  As you end your visit to Nelson Mandela’s house, you will drive through Vilakazi Street, which is the only street and neighborhood in the world where two Nobel Prize winners lived: Nelson Mandela & Desmond Tutu.

 

Your final stop is at the world famous Apartheid Museum where you will pass through and see the exhibits and the amazing history that was only back around 50 years ago.

Day 7 (Sunday):

Day 8 (Monday):

Full day private tour or Cape Town

Meet your guide in the lobby and proceed on a full day tour of Cape Town.

Highlights of your full day tour: Morning visit to Table mountain including the cable car ride (Weather permitting), Malay Quarter, South Africa Jewish Museum, Iziko South Africa Museum, The Castle of Good Hope,

Day 9 (Tuesday):

Full day private tour of Cape Peninsula

Meet your guide in the lobby and proceed to a full day tour of to Cape Peninsula.

Highlights of your full day tour: Hout Bay, boat trip to Seal Island, Chapman’s Peak, Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, Boulders Beach, and on your return to Cape Town you will stop by Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden.

Day 10 (Wednesday):   – Join Welcome tours coach tour of garden route.

CAPE TOWN to OUDTSHOORN via ROUTE 62

The tour begins and heads eastwards to Oudtshoorn, via Route 62, a picturesque route that traverses the contrasting regions of the Western and Eastern Cape. Enjoy lunch and the Tradouw Valley, en-route, followed by a traditional Witblits tasting (both own account). Oudtshoorn is the ostrich capital of the world; boasts over 400 ostrich farms and several, so-called, Feather Mansions. Guests enjoy an informative tour of an ostrich farm; learning about the intricacies of a working farm. On arrival at the lodge, guests spend the afternoon at leisure. Dinner is enjoyed in the quaint setting.

Day 11 (Thursday):

OUDTSHOORN to KNYSNA via WILDERNESS

After breakfast guests enjoy a tour to an olive farm. A tasting, paired with Protea Rose or juice, is offered in the orchard. The tour visits the Cango Caves, a 20-million-year-old national treasure in the foothills of the Swartberg Mountains, before continuing over the Outeniqua Mountains to the Garden Route. The next scenic stop is in Wilderness. Guests enjoy photo opportunities and sweeping views from the Map of Africa lookout point (weather permitting) before continuing on to Knysna. After check-in guests embark on a sunset Knysna oyster cruise (weather permitting), an informative cruise introducing guests to the culinary delights of a wild Knysna oyster. Dinner is enjoyed at one of many restaurants on the Knysna Estuary (own account).

Day 12 (Friday):

KNYSNA to PLETTENBERG BAY and back

After breakfast the tour makes its way to Plettenberg Bay. Guests embark a boat at Lookout Beach for a marine excursion (weather permitting) with the emphasis on marine-mammal conservation. This ocean safari affords guests close-up views of whales, dolphins and seals. Back on shore, enjoy a relaxing lunch in Plettenberg Bay (own account). In the afternoon guests enjoy a guided tour of the Qolweni Township, school and crèche. This community development program focuses on education. Allocated tour proceeds are channeled into initiatives targeting the education of Qolweni’s young children. Guests are invited to donate pencils, books and other stationary. Dinner is enjoyed at one of many Knysna Waterfront restaurants (own account).

Day 13 (Saturday):   Leave the Welcome tours coach tour one day early without the full day to Tsitikama.
