We estimate you will reach the hotel by 9:30am / 10:00am this morning. You may leave your luggage with the concierge and explore the many shops across the street. Then come back and check in and also relax this afternoon or go exploring on your own.

Overnight: The Grand Stanford Intercontinental Hotel.

Day 4. Sun. Hong Kong.   (Morning tour of Hong Kong Island 8:00am / 1:30pm) (Late afternoon at leisure 2:00pm onwards)

This morning have a leisurely and big breakfast and we meet our tour guide in the lobby at 08:15am.

8:15am / 1:30pm – Tour Hong Kong Island. This afternoon fully refreshed, we will meet in the lobby of the hotel at 8:00am and meet our tour guide for the morning. We will load into the private vehicle and drive over to Hong Kong Island which is called Central.

This is also the financial district of the two sides of Hong Kong – Hong Kong Island and Kowloon side, divided by the Victoria harbor in the middle.

8:30am – Once we reach central (by tunnel) the tour starts right in the heart of Central where you’ll get a good close look at the famous skyscrapers of Hong Kong Island and relive some of the city’s most historic events (the handover to China, the Japanese invasion in WWII).

9:00am – Next we walk together with the guide along Hollywood road to Man Mo Temple which is an incensed filled world unto its own. If you’ve never been inside a Chinese temple, this is a great introduction to the various Chinese religions.

9:30am – Continue our walk to the Cat Street Market.(official name is Upper Lascar Row) If your home is missing that final finishing touch, how about a piece of rare Ming dynasty furniture, an ancient snuff bottle or a Cultural Revolution propaganda poster? Upper Lascar Row – known as Cat Street – is where you can find such treasures, within its fantastic congregation of antique dealers, curio merchants and art galleries. This is also the place to go for bargains in jade, silk products, embroideries and wooden handicraft items.

10:00am – Victoria Peak Tram Car – Our guide will bring us around to the Victoria Peak Tram boarding area as we ride together up the side of the mountain to the top which is referred to as the look out. Here you will be able to enjoy spectacular views of Hong Kong spread out before us. Enjoy the views. Our driver has brought our vehicle up to the top a different route.

10:45am – 11:30am – Stanley Market. We leave the Lookout and continue a short distance to Stanley market. Stanley Market is one of the must-go places for tourists when they visit Hong Kong.  You will find an interesting array of little shops selling silk garments, sportswear, art, Chinese costume jewelry and souvenirs.  While a bit “touristy” if you are a tourist it will certainly help you to cross off all the items on your souvenirs-to-buy-Uncle-Joe shopping list.  Or a quick look and we move on.

11:30am – 11:45am – Millionaire row – Where do all the nice luxury homes sit. One of the areas is on the side of the mountain of Victoria Peak overlooking the harbor. As we board our car, our guide will head for Aberdeen fishing village on the other side of the mountain and as we descend, we will be able to view some magnificent properties. Hong Kong luxury home prices have exceeded the previous peak of 1997, fueling speculation the government may introduce further steps to prevent the housing bubble from bursting. Prices of apartments with an area of at least 100 square meters (1,076 square feet) are 13.8 percent higher than in the third quarter of 1997, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority said in a slide presentation posted on its website recently.

11:45am – 12:15pm – Aberdeen Fishing Village & Chinese Junk ride to visit the area.  A trip to Hong Kong would not be complete without sharing the experiences of the ‘boat people’ at the Aberdeen Fishing Village.

This is perhaps one of Hong Kong’s oldest and most popular tourist attractions. Having stayed most of my life on dry land, my last encounter with the Aberdeen Fishing Village sure did change my perception of ‘life on water’. Aberdeen used to be a little fishing village on Hong Kong Island but there are now as many yachts and sailboats as there are fishing trawlers and sampans. Nonetheless, the magic of this ancient fishing port remains and it continues to be a scenic highlight for any Hong Kong Island tour. The harbor home consists of 600-odd junks that house over 6,000 of the boat people in Hong Kong. These brightly decorated trawlers, which double as floating homes for Aberdeen’s fishing folks fill a sheltered harbor with hillsides decked with woodlands.

12:30pm – 1:30pm – Our guide thinks you will be tuckered out by now and ready for your lunch back near your hotel. The guide may recommend a place to have lunch and make your own way back to the hotel or head to the hotel to freshen up and then make your own decision to walk around the city and search for lunch. Ask your guide for suggestions. Dim Sum very popular.

Enjoy the afternoon and evening to rest back at the hotel on Kowloon side of the harbor.

Overnight: The Grand Stanford Intercontinental Hotel (B)

Day 5. Mon. Hong Kong.   (Half day private tour of the city/ Afternoon / Evening free at leisure to explore on your own)

This morning have a leisurely breakfast and we meet in the lobby at 9:30am.

This is an area almost impossibly rich in traditional local color and culture, Kowloon’s Mongkok is one of the world’s most congested residential and commercial districts, and the starting point for a memorable day of markets, food, and people. If you want peace and quiet and relaxation, this is not for you! But for photographers and for total immersion in Hong Kong street-life unchanged for many years, this walking tour is just what you want.

9:30am – 10:15am. Our private driver and vehicle along with our guide brings us to the Flower market where we start the morning. The 100 or so shops and wholesalers here sell auspicious blossoms and luck-bringing houseplants to an enthusiastic crowd all year round. But the lead up to Chinese New Year is when things really heat up, as families flock towards the market to carefully select flowers and greenery that attract good luck and fortune as a new lunar cycle begins.

10:15am – 10:45am – Next, we continue to Yuen Po Street Bird Garden to see the birds (and their owners) socializing. A popular haunt for songbird supporters, the visually engaging Yuen Po Street Bird Garden is designed in the style of a traditional Chinese garden.

The park has dozens of stalls selling exotic birds, beautifully crafted bamboo cages, porcelain water dishes and other bird-care paraphernalia. While it’s unlikely that you’ll be purchasing a few Chinese thrushes as mementos of your Hong Kong trip, the garden is a pleasant place to witness this age-old Chinese hobby in action; where elderly men feed and preen their feathered friends in exchange for sweet songs.

10:45am – 12:00pm – Goldfish Market and Ladies Market. We continue our walk along the streets of Kowloon where we pass through a quick look at the Goldfish market and reaching the ladies market. With over 100 stalls of bargain clothing, accessories and souvenirs, the Ladies’ Market on Tung Choi Street provides a one-kilometer stretch on which to practice your haggling skills. It gets its name from the huge amount of clothing and accessories on sale for women of all ages; however, with watches, cosmetics, bags, home furnishings, CDs and trinkets also up for grabs, you don’t need to be just in the market for a pair of nylon stockings to find something within its crowded aisles.

12:00noon – 2:00pm – The guide may drop you at Dim Sum for your Lunch Break, Pay direct. Our morning completed in this section of Kowloon, your private driver and guide will bring you back to your hotel or as we would suggest – Reservation made at one of the trendy dim sum restaurants that are a must in any Hong Kong visit.

Dim sum means ‘touch your heart’ and with as many as 150 items on a restaurant menu, and 2,000 in the entire range, it is a challenge to not find something you love. As Cantonese people tend to avoid fried foods early in the day, steamed dishes dominate most dim sum menus. There are also snack-sized portions of pan-fried, deep-fried, and baked served in bamboo containers, which are designed to be eaten communally and washed down with tea. Hence, going for dim sum is known as yum cha, which literally means ‘drinking tea.’ Usually a brunch or lunch affair, it is a common form of family, co-worker and other group get-togethers.

Today, dim sum restaurants come in all shapes and sizes, from straight shooting to high falutin’. Start with one of the large mid-priced eateries where in the midst of boisterous conversations you will see multiple generations gather around the table for a no-nonsense family feed and office workers enjoying a short but effective break from the daily grind. When you enter, let the waiter know how many people are in your group, be seated, decide on what type of tea you want, order your dim sum, and enjoy a quintessential Hong Kong experience!

Afternoon at leisure – From the dim sum restaurant, you will be able to walk to Nathan Road, which is the main shopping street of Hong Kong’s Tsim Shat Sui district of Kowloon. Here the shops are lined on both sides of the street and goes for blocks and blocks and blocks. You can slip down side alleys and main streets and come back onto Nathan Road as you duck in and out of shops along this famous stretch of Hong Kong. Your hotel is just a few minutes away from Nathan road by taxi.

4:00pm – 5:30pm – Evening at Leisure – Suggested rest time or high tea at the Peninsula Hotel (across the street from the other Intercontinental hotel) Please be ready in the lobby of your hotel at 5:30pm for your evening adventure.

Overnight: The Grand Stanford Intercontinental Hotel (B)

Set wake up calls for tomorrow as your early and wonderful day starts at 3:00am!

About Ubud: Ubud is a town on the Indonesian island of Bali in Ubud District, located amongst rice paddies and steep ravines in the central foothills of the Gianyar regency. One of Bali’s major arts and culture centers, it has developed a large tourism industry. 8th century legend tells of a Javanese priest, Rsi Markendya, who meditated at the confluence of two rivers at the Ubud locality of Campuan. Here he founded the Gunung Lebah Temple on the valley floor, the site of which remains a pilgrim destination

In the late nineteenth century, Ubud became the seat of feudal lords who owed their allegiance to the king of Gianyar, at one time the most powerful of Bali’s southern states. The lords were members of the satriya family of Sukawati, and were significant supporters of the village’s increasingly renowned arts scene.

Tourism on the island developed after the arrival of Walter Spies, an ethnic German born in Russia who taught painting and music, and dabbled in dance. Spies and foreign painters Willem Hofker and Rudolf Bonnet entertained celebrities including Charlie Chaplin, Noël Coward, Barbara Hutton, H.G. Wells and Vicki Baum.

They brought in some of the greatest artists from all over Bali to teach and train the Balinese in arts, helping Ubud become the cultural center of Bali.

This morning you will be met at the hotel at 9:30am and set off for a morning continued tour of Singapore. First stop is to Caning Park, one of Singapore’s most historic landmarks. It has witnessed Singapore’s golden age, when Malay Kings ruled from its peak, and watched as the island transformed from a sleepy fishing village into a vibrant trading hub in the 19th century. Here we will take another brief stroll with our guide and learn a little history of Singapore.

Our next stop, Raffles landing site, is at the mouth of the Singapore River. Here we are off to board a traditional bum boat (Chinese junk style boat) for a picturesque ride up the Singapore River. Learn where the traders moved around the city and enjoy an interesting view of Singapore from the riverside as we gently cruise along.

Next we continue over to Chinatown & Little India. (Private walking tour with our guide)

Continue our tour as we set out for our tour of Little India and Chinatown. Our coach will bring us to China town and then we set out on a 2.5 hour walking tour followed by closing the morning off with a rickshaw ride. This leisurely walk, allows time to shop along the way if you find something interesting.

Our first stop this afternoon is at Chinatown where we will visit the Buddha Tooth relic temple. The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum is a Buddhist temple and museum complex located in the Chinatown district of Singapore. “The temple is based on the Tang dynasty architectural style and built to house the tooth relic of the historical Buddha. The ground breaking ceremony was conducted on 13 March 2005. Costing S$62 million and 2 years later, a soft launch was held to coincide with the 2007 Vesak Day celebration. It is claimed that the relic of Buddha from which it gains its name was found in 1980 in a collapsed stupa in Myanmar.

Visit the Museum and temple before we continue to our next stop.

As we admire the architecture, before we know it, we will enter Little India which is the next neighborhood and stop at the oldest Hindu temple in Singapore, the magnificent Sri Mariamman Temple. It is an agamid temple, built in the Dravidian style. Located at No. 244 South Bridge Road, in the downtown Chinatown district, the temple serves mainly South Indian Tamil Hindu Singaporeans in the city-state. Due to its architectural and historical significance, the temple has been bestowed a National Monument and is a major tourist attraction. Sri Mariamman Temple is managed by the Hindu Endowments Board, a statutory board under the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports. The Sri Mariamman Temple was founded in 1827 by Naraina Pillai, eight years after the British East India Company established a trading settlement in Singapore. Little India is a hive of activity that permeates every nook and cranny of the area.

At the end of the tour, the guide will drop you back to the hotel or if you ask, they can also drop you along Orchard Road where all the restaurants and mini malls are located. How about a final sunset swim in the hotel infinity pool and then head out to enjoy dinner this evening on your own.
