Day 1: Friday or Monday

USA to Kilimanjaro Flights.

Today you will make your own way to the airport to board your international flight to Europe and connecting to Kilimanjaro.

Overnight: En Route.

 

Day 2: Saturday or Tuesday

Arrive Kilimanjaro by your international flights.

Walk to the airport terminal and proceed through Customs and Immigration. A visa is required to enter Tanzania for U.S. citizens, please ensure your passport is valid for 6 months following your return to the U.S.A. On exiting the airport you will be met by a local representative who speaks English and transferred to your Arusha Hotel.

Your flight will likely be a late night arrival flight so on arrival to your hotel, you will check in and head to your room with the assistance of hotel porters. No meals included today due to a late arrival.

Day 3: Sunday or Wednesday

Arusha to Lake Manyara

You will be met by the Simba Representative at your Arusha hotel this morning and enjoy a safari briefing from the touring staff. Check out and proceed to Lake Manyara by 4×4 vehicle.

Enter into the park after a dive through the countryside. Lake Manyara offers a great introduction to the wildlife of Tanzania with over 400 different species of birds and the infamous tree climbing lions will let you know that you are in a country that cannot be described by words, even though Ernest Hemingway certainly made an attempt.

You will check into your lodge and have lunch. After Lunch, you will set off on safari with your first game drive of Lake Manyara. These game drives can last for 4 hours, driving the roads of the park with your eagle eyed driver/guide pointing and stopping for perfect photo opportunities. Inside the parks your driver/guide will raise the top or the vehicle allowing you to stand up inside of the truck for photos.

Return to the lodge before the sun sets, official rules of the parks, and enjoy the evening with dinner and drinks on your own listening to the sounds of Africa at night.

Day 4: Monday or Thursday

Lake Manyara to the Serengeti

After breakfast, you will check out of your hotel and meet your driver/guide in the lobby to load your luggage. You will drive to the Serengeti.

Finally arrive at the famous Serengeti National Park. Once you enter the gates of the park, your driver/guide will raise the roof of the truck and you will enjoy a game drive on the way to your lodge. The Serengeti is home to two World Heritage Sites and two biosphere reserves. This park has inspired Ernest Hemmingway and been featured in David Attenborough documentaries. With all of the beauty and all of the wonder available year round, the most impressive time to visit is during the Great Migration of May and June.

Arrive at your lodge just in time for a hot lunch and check in. After lunch you have some time to settle into your room before enjoying an afternoon game drive through the vast park.

Day 5: Tuesday or Friday

Serengeti National Park

A thrilling day of game viewing will take you to prime areas for seeing the fullest possible variety of animals. Visit the hippo pools in the Seronera Valley, forests where leopard and colobus monkeys live in the treetops, kopjes where lions laze in the shade, and riversides where large animals congregate to drink.

Your game drives will occur in the early morning and late afternoon. This is to avoid the overhead African sun and this is the best time to watch the predators hunt. In the mid-day you will be returned to the lodge to enjoy a hot lunch and to relax poolside.

Day 6: Wednesday or Saturday

Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast you will check out, load your luggage, and drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area with en-route game viewing in the Serengeti National Park.

Along the way to Ngorongoro you will visit the Olduvai Gorge and museum where you can learn about Louis and Mary (Nicol) Leakey’s discoveries of the earliest evidence of the existence of human ancestors. Here you will enjoy a packed lunch from the lodge while overlooking the gorge.

Next you will continue your trip to visit a local Maasai village. Here is a special visit to a local tribe which still live and hunt the old ways. You are encouraged to learn and ask many questions while you visit the mud home of a Maasai warrior. They also make crafts from animal bones at a small market they have.

You will arrive at the lodge along the rim of Ngorongoro Crater in the late afternoon. Evening at leisure

Day 7: Thursday or Sunday

Ngorongoro Crater

Spend a full day exploring the woodlands, lakes and wide-open plains of the Crater floor in your 4×4 vehicle. Ngorongoro Crater is the largest unflooded and unbroken caldera (Volcanic Crater) in the world. Ngorongoro offers unsurpassed viewing of rare black rhinoceros, which are undisturbed by vehicles and allow viewing at close range if possible. Some of its other 25,000 residents include lions, elephants, hyenas, wildebeest, buffalo, hippos, ostrich and an abundance of pink flamingos on Lake Magadi. Your lunch will be a packed meal which you will eat at Lake Magadi, home to hippos.

Return to your lodge late afternoon.

Overnight: Ngorongoro Serena Lodge or Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge. (Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner)

 

Day 8: Friday or Monday

Ngorongoro Conservation Area to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast you will check out, load luggage, and drive to Tarangire National Park and arrive at your lodge for a hot lunch.

In the afternoon you enjoy your last game drive in Tanzania through the Park. Hope to view any animals you haven’t yet seen from your list of musts.

Overnight: Tarangire River Camp or Tarangire Sopa Lodge. (Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner)

 

Day 9: Saturday or Tuesday

Tarangire National Park to Arusha

After breakfast you check out and drive to Arusha for lunch at a local lodge.

After lunch you will be transferred to the Kilimanjaro airport for your departure flights.

Overnight: En Route. (Breakfast – Lunch)

 

Day 10: Sunday or Wednesday

Arrive Home

Today you will arrive back to your home city with memories, stories, and pictures to last a lifetime.
